The Brand New Chevrolet Corvette C8
Finally, it’s here the brand new Chevrolet Corvette C8 with a mid-engine heart that will raise Corvette hopefully to new heights. After so many years of speculation and endless discussion in the Corvette forum with endless and sometimes weird renderings, GM decided to switch the Corvette to European style and implement a mid-engine. In several videos you can see how the Corvette guys are saying that there was no room anymore for improvement based on the previous Corvette models where the engine was in front, and so they were forced to change something.
We could tell them this years ago as there is a reason why every Sportscar in the world with serious performance is born with a mid-engine. Its not only the balance of the car, but all other components can be placed on places where the car benefits from. They should look to Europe which is the motherland of supercars that are not fast only on the straight line. Well some of you will disagree now but look at the last ZR1 model. There is only a 0-60 time on paper that it can reach. Far away in the reality and far away of any serious track performance. Too difficult to drive because too much power generated once you hit the pedal. Yes its good for smoking tires but not for track time. Just placing a blower or supercharger on the front and selling it as monster is old fashion and don’t work nowadays anymore.
You see it with the new C8. With under 500 horsepower it has the same 0-60 time as the ZR1. We believe it that there is no way accelerating the ZR1 under 4 seconds or doing it only by accident as where should the grip come from? With an all wheel drive all day long, but with this technology and rear wheel drive, you must be kidding me.
However, we are looking forward for real track time and real 0-60 time of the new Corvette C8 as what GM propagates on the paper is not much worth based on the facts in the past. For sure the right step in the right direction if you really want to deliver modern performance.
Is it a threat to Lamborghini and Co? 110% not, as a Lambo or similar driver would not drive a Corvette and if it would be twice as fast. At the end of the day these guys are looking for success items and the Corvette does not really display luxury. A car for Fun? 100% but nothing more.
